EAST >> Dive into emotional Soul Trap/Hiphop song “Lost (Tribute)” by 4Cah

Ghostly. No better a word can describe the melancholic beginning of 4cah’s new record, “Lost”. Upon realizing the inspiration for this song; the reality of that word’s significance towards this track makes it ten-times more faultless. From the slow tap of the rimshot, to the heartbreaking crawl of grand pianos underneath a bone-chilling, soprano chorus; everything is devoted to honoring 4cah’s cousin, Eric, who recently passed away. Certainly, his spirit is coursing through the instrumentation of “Lost”; and when our DMV emcee arrives on the track, that same spirit dynamically possesses him. The rapper begins to detail exactly how recent losses have traumatized him, alongside telling personal stories of his cousin’s afflictions. Every bar comes infused with a passion and emotion that only shared experiences from us, his listeners, can truly unpack. If ever you have been struck by the death of a loved one, “Lost” will wrench those sentiments to the surface. Tears will pool your eyes, flowing as freely as the melody, rap, sung vocals on the record; and you will be irresistibly enthralled by its visceral power. Previous releases showed us that this Maryland rapper is talented; however, “Lost”, is an evolution for 4cah. It puts him on a very small list of artists who can paint perfect pictures of pains we face, day in and day out. That makes 4cah a treasure in the current landscape of Hip-Hop. One that Eric would be inexplicably proud of.

Inspiring new street anthem “100” by H6Z100 (Hbeezyonehundred)

“We be the goons!” In an unquenchable burst of zeal and hunger, H6Z100 (Hbeezyonehundred) is letting us have it with “100”, his latest, hard-hitting release. It is a three-minute and twenty-two second tirade proffered through his Soundcloud, equipped with everything you would expect of a Michigan anthem. The vigorous prance of 808 kicks rumbling beneath a malicious, piano melody and scattering trap percussion, creates a bounce reminiscent of the Detroit sound. Yet, our Ypsilanti native makes it uniquely his own. Through his lively delivery, street-hardened lyricism, and melodious, auto-tuned hook, H6Z100 fully invites us into his existence. Warring between a life on the block, and a love for God, this Midwest emcee has his back against the wall. Yet, as “100” proves, when the heat is on, H6Z100 becomes a force to be reckoned with. He will hit the booth and lash out with a bombing banger. All of his turmoil is destined to pay off; for, “100” is just the song H6Z100 needs to explode.

BT (The Artist) set to release positive hiphop EP “Better Days” [Music + Interview Included]

BT (The Artist)
“Better Days” EP
Release Date: February 8, 2019

They say the world is filled with evil. Well, when making the judgment, they must have left Massachusetts rapper, B.T., out of the equation. Born Bryanne Toney, this Dorchester artist is on a breath-taking, philanthropic mission. In tandem with the upcoming, February drop of his spirited EP, “Better Days”, B.T. pledges to donate half of his record sales to The Base, a sports education organization. Alongside being an incredibly noble gesture, it is a grandiose opportunity for The Base, because this album is prone to push some units. How can it fail when the music is as loving and thoughtful as the mission behind it? Within all four tracks, riding warm, empyrean instrumentals, are powerfully jolting rhymes. From the melodic, trap-rap aesthetic of “Problem”, to the Golden Era, boom-bap nature of the other three records (“For You I Will”, “They Look Up To Me”, and “Better Days”), B.T. never surrenders a moment. Every breath taken in that booth is devoted to an inspirational bar, motivational metaphor, and overall positive message to his following. With each track he reinforces the notion that there are still good souls walking our earth. Yes, we are in a rough spot. However, this fascinating music, and even further captivating act of charity, prove that so long as individuals like B.T. are around, the world will see “Better Days”.

“Better Days” EP available on all digital platforms on Feb. 8th 2019

DMNS releases potent soul trap single “Sacrifices”

Slow and solemn, a haze of ambiance glides floats along your peripherals. Before this chill completely engulfs you, a warm 808 splits it in half, and the tap of a rimshot pushes gentle, West Coast crooning into the mix. It is rising, Los Angeles R&B talent, DMNS; wrapped in autotune, formally welcoming you to his latest single, “Sacrifices”. And it is an ethereal welcome, to say the least. The rattle of subtle hi-hats and bounce of R&B drums will guide you through the melodic mist of the record; whilst DMNS’s flavorful, reverberating harmonies tug at the very threads of your heart and soul. “For you I make sacrifices...” he sings, backed by arctic ad-libs and vocal alternates; whose presence create this unique duality for the song. Yes, our singer’s delivery and intentions are warm, however, the reality that surrounds him is callus, cruel and cold. For his warmth to be felt; for DMNS’s love to truly be cherished, he must make “Sacrifices”. That realization is what brings us this chilling, alternative R&B record; and this chilling, alternative R&B record will be the reason DMNS is eventually on everyone’s radar.

DJ Free Lenard new song “Let’s Get It In” ft. Young Dirty Bastard

Once play is pressed, an electronic buzz, flavored by various, other EDM-esque synths, will slither calmly into the mix. Sixteen seconds in, it will have bubbled to a climax, before dropping into a groove of Golden Age drums. That is when, Oakland, CA rapper, DJ Free Leonard attacks the mic; and “Let’s Get It In” officially takes off. There are zero distractions on this four-minute opus. No exuberant autotuned melodies; no mumbled, street fables; no unnecessary shrieks or shouts. There is only DJ Free Leonard, and a bottomless pit of bars. The West Coast rapper, seasoned by the Young Dirty Bastard (Wu Tang) feature that blesses his hook, is at his utmost philosophical on this record. He dissects various aspects in his life, especially questioning the importance of certain decisions he has made. Most of all, he champions living; devoting whole verses to bestowing wisdom he’s gained through the lessons he has learned. “Let’s Get It In” is a very insightful listen. It is the mark of a man who has come out of the better end of tribulation; and is now ready to devote every waking breath to this music he loves so much.

NYC >> Sphinx drops powerful new rap song “The Journey”

“Even though we lost alot, look at how much we gained...” Over a blurry vocal-sample, sinister synth, and pounding 808, these bars from Sphinx will hit like a freight train. “It was part of the journey, not once did we complain...” Powered by the pitter-patter of modern-trap percussion, Sphinx pours every ounce of his Brooklyn soul onto his latest offering, “The Journey”. For three-minutes and twenty-two seconds, it is just the East Coast emcee, this spiritual instrumental, and the microphone. With that time, Sphinx welcomes us into the whirlwind that is his life. However, instead of being swept away by his struggles; alongside every bar spit, our New York rapper assures us that his ambition is stronger than ever. The significance of those aforementioned two lines grows as “The Journey” progresses. Sphinx’s resolve to achieve his goals of success and acknowledgement swell as every second grooves by. Before long, it has grown into an inspirational banger; and “The Journey” becomes the key for this upcoming artist to unlock his every dream. Help him along with a play.

dogfuck drops a minute bomb titled “ViolentHeadJerk”

Whatever is transpiring in Richmond, Virginia; it may be leading us to a musical evolution in Hip-Hop. Where melodies are sporadic and unconventional, drums abandon this modern-trap trend, track lengths rival EPs and stage-names are as bizarre as the music itself. That is the zeitgeist that dogfuck, a Virginian emcee, may be leading us to with his exhilarating, experimental offering “VIOLENTHEADJERK”. That quadruplet of elements listed earlier exists wholly within the composition of “VIOLENTHEADJERK”. The melodies on this record are far from traditional; being composed of a variety of samples and freakish progressions. Drums transgress all genres, lunging from Trap, to archaic Hip-Hop, and even Drum-n-Bass. All the while, dogfuck maintains a riotous, boundary-bending resolve. His delivery is composed of shouts, spitting, melodizing and anything else he can conjure from within. One thing is certain: no section ever mirrors the last, for the entire eighteen minute duration of this release. Every portion of “VIOLENTHEADJERK” is idiosyncratic; special, in its own sonic dimension. This music has an undeniable, Death Grips/Clipping air to it; and by that alone, dogfuck is aligned with a vanguard of Hip-Hop experimentalists, ushering us into a new era of Rap. In a time where the culture is being dominated by conformity, “VIOLENTHEADJERK” is another breath of fresh air we certainly need.

3Mind Blight releases powerful hiphop anthem “Make This Right”

“So many times I would try to make this right, make this right!” This may be just the banger to put Oklahoma on the map. A harsh, Tulsa aggression is embedded in both the production and delivery of “Make This Right”; with the city’s own, 3mind Blight, at its devilish helm. Ominous strings, carried by dark brass progressions and gliding 808s create the backbone of this record. Proceeded by the drums, “Make This Right” summons a trap bounce of its own, fit for bumping throughout the Tusla streets. With a beat like this, 3Mind Blight could never resist slaughtering it. He hops onto it in a fever of distorted, menacing voices; switching his flow and dark delivery with every verse he lays. 3Mind Blight’s potential as a lyricist and emcee altogether is unquestionably proven on “Make This Right”. Not only has he elevated his prospect as an artist; but he has likewise given his home of Tusla, Oklahoma a banger to embrace.

Tragedy strikes with Trevor Haze's new 15 track album “Tragic$tory”

He has been building hype with an array of singles for months. Now, Portland, Oregon’s Trevor Haze is ready for mainstream spotlight; displayed by dropping his anticipated, radioactive debut “Tragic$tory” to thousands of plays. Numbers have immediately ran up on this awaited, 15 track LP; especially on joints such as “Been Thru This Before”, “Lately”, “Fell In Love Again”, and “Sometimes”. Why? Simple: their creator wields a command over melody and exceptional ear for beats that so few of his contemporaries can parallel. Even the album intro, “Let You Go” (featuring Sinogabriel), is a extraterrestrial wave of sonic ecstasy. It, as many others on this project, oozes this reverberated, shoegaze aesthetic, and Trevor Haze pairs such flawlessly. Between singing and rapping over these celestial beats, Trevor Haze slowly crafts his own soundscape; to which your ears will be helplessly magnetized. He says, “The lyrics of each song portrays the story of love and heartbreak”. There are so many more layers to Tragic$tory’s musicality than a simple, trap rap album; and that is a testament to the West Coast rapper’s potential as a creative. It is well worth a listen; and this year, Trevor Haze will be well worth every one of our’s eyes and ears.
